Xcelentra — personal taxation

Summary

Xcelentra's founders could see the promise of AI. The question was not whether AI mattered. The question was where it could create real impact inside their own business.

Mnerva began with Xcelentra's personal taxation vertical. The work was live, accuracy-sensitive and difficult to scale through people alone. More business meant more hiring, more supervision and more risk around consistency.

Mnerva helped Xcelentra identify where intelligence could remove load without removing accountability. The first visible success was receipt classification, where a core activity that required sustained human effort was reduced to zero human effort. A second capability brought AI-supported monitoring into production for relevant residency-rule changes, helping the business stay more responsive while keeping human review in place.

For Xcelentra, the shift was not from manual work to automation alone. It was from people-dependent scale to intelligence-led growth.

The starting point

Xcelentra is a financial services firm with multiple lines of business across the UK and India. The founders were already exploring AI. One of the founders had been attending AI conferences and seminars and could see the possibilities. But, like many founder-led businesses, the real challenge was practical.

Where does AI apply inside our actual business?

They did not need a generic AI roadmap. They needed to understand where AI could make a real difference in their own operating reality.

The business pressure

The personal taxation vertical became the starting point.

It was a proven area of the business, but the work carried a clear scaling challenge. Key activities were repetitive, accuracy-sensitive and people-dependent.

Scaling the existing model meant adding more people. But adding more people also meant more training, more supervision, more coordination and higher risk around consistency.

The business had growth potential. But growth could not continue to depend only on human effort carrying repeatable work.

What Mnerva helped make visible

Mnerva started by creating an outside-in Business View of the personal taxation vertical.

This helped Xcelentra see the business more clearly: the work, the dependencies, the accuracy-sensitive points, the repeated effort, and the places where human attention was carrying too much operational load.

The Business View did more than identify AI use cases. It helped the founders see where scale, people dependency and accuracy were holding each other back.

That clarity changed the conversation. AI was no longer an abstract possibility. It became a practical way to build growth capacity, one focused capability at a time.

The first visible success

The first major success came in receipt classification.

This activity was central to the personal taxation workflow. It required sustained human effort, continuous attention and a high level of consistency.

With Mnerva, the receipt classification activity moved into production with zero human effort required for that activity. This created immediate operating capacity. It also showed the organisation that AI could be applied in a grounded, business-specific and accountable way.

Bringing intelligence closer to the business

The second live capability focused on residency-rule changes.

Earlier, this area carried dependency on external updates and manual follow-up. Any change in relevant rules could create delay, coordination effort and uncertainty.

Mnerva helped bring AI-supported monitoring into production. Relevant changes are now tracked, surfaced and brought to the right people for review.

Human confirmation remains part of the process. The business gains responsiveness without giving up accountability.

The business movement

For Xcelentra, the impact was broader than effort reduction.

The first live capabilities created confidence that the business could scale without simply adding more people to the same operating model.

They also helped employees move away from repetitive, accuracy-heavy work and towards higher-value ownership. Teams could spend less time firefighting and more time identifying where intelligence could improve the business next.

The personal taxation vertical became the starting point. With early success visible, extending the approach into other verticals became a natural next step.

Why this matters

Many founders are excited about AI. Fewer know how to apply it meaningfully inside their own business. Mnerva does not begin with generic automation. It begins with business reality, and helps organisations see where intelligence can create capacity, improve responsiveness and build confidence for growth.

For Xcelentra, that meant moving from AI curiosity to live intelligence-led operations.

Mnerva Perspective

The shift was not from manual work to automation alone.

It was from people-dependent scale to intelligence-led growth.

Mnerva helped Xcelentra turn operating reality into shared intelligence, focused capability increments and live business momentum.
